Players from Arsenal, Swansea City, Newcastle United and Manchester United feature on our list.

Robin van Persie
There are almost no superlatives that can do the Dutchman justice. His matchwinning brace against Liverpool was almost more impressive than Andrei Arshavin’s four goal haul here three seasons ago. His two goals came from the only two passes he received inside Liverpool’s penalty box, and he dispatched them clinically, although Jamie Carragher was beaten far too easily for the header for his first.

Gylfi Sigurdsson
Swansea’s Icelandic loan signing is already looking like one of the best of the transfer window. He is showing why Reading once received £6 million for his services, with the two goals scored against Wigan a real touch of class. With Manchester City up next for the Welsh side, he can really put himself in the spotlight. Since arriving in Wales he has three goals and three assists, and has already played his part in seemingly steering them to safety.

Wojciech Szczesny
The Arsenal goalkeeper is having a fine season, and he may have few better afternoons than the match against Liverpool. His double save from the penalty spot to deny Dirk Kuyt is up there with the best and it proved crucial come the end of the game. Arsenal were forced to weather an early storm at Anfield, and the fact they only conceded one was down to the young Pole. The fact van Persie handed him his man of the match champagne said it all about how important his contribution was.

Shola Ameobi
Make that seven goals in Tyne and Wear derby’s for Ameobi. He may not be the most talented striker to ever wear the Newcastle shirt, but he has proved this season that he can chip in with important goals when the situation demands it and the club would be silly to let him go. Ameobi has been at the club since breaking through under Sir Bobby Robson and it is great to see him still contributing.

Ashley Young
After a terrific start, Ashley Young’s Manchester United career faded badly, and was interrupted badly. Yesterday he was at his brilliant best, with two goals and an assist of the highest quality. He is coming into form at just the right time for United’s title charge, and making up for Nani’s ineffective form. He also netted for England in midweek making it a productive few days.

** Pavel Pogrebnyak has been on our list for the past two weeks, so we have rotated him out despite his hat-trick yesterday. Who else should be on the list?
