According to a report from Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato, Everton are lining up a summer swoop for RB Leipzig striker Yussuf Poulsen, but they should surely be setting their sights higher than the Dane.

The 24-year-old hitman was worryingly goal-shy in Germany last season, scoring just five goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig, and it is hard to see where he would actually improve Everton’s setup.

The Dane is valued at £8.8 million, according to Transfer Markt, and although that seems like decent value in today’s day and age, the Merseyside outfit would surely be better off spending their money elsewhere.

Marco Silva should be looking to bring in a clinical striker with proven pedigree over a sustained period of time, and Poulsen certainly doesn’t fit into that category.
