Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United striker James Wilson on loan.
When Leeds were linked with a loan bid for Manchester United striker James Wilson back in mid-October by The Sun, the youngster’s form may have left many wondering why exactly the Whites were considering making an offer.
Wilson appears to have potential, but his last senior appearance came when Derby faced Leeds at Pride Park in October last year, and when The Sun’s report came out regarding Leeds’ interest, he had scored just once in the previous five games for Manchester United’s under-23s.
Since then however, Wilson has enjoyed a much better run of form and provided much clearer evidence as to why Leeds would want to bring him to Elland Road on a temporary basis in January.
The 21-year-old has now scored five goals in his last four outings for the under-23s, including a brace in the 2-1 win over Swansea, and United’s goal in the draw with their Manchester City counterparts at the weekend.
His form would not make him Leeds’ first-choice if Thomas Christiansen managed to bring him in during the winter window. Pierre-Michel Lasogga has scored five goals despite coming in for plenty of criticism, while Kemar Roofe and Caleb Ekuban both shone in the weekend win over Middlesbrough.
But Wilson would arguably give Leeds an extra dimension to their attacking ranks that the likes of Jay-Roy Grot and Pawel Cibicki are arguably not providing right now. And after watching their season run out of steam last term, Leeds will know how important making some smart moves for in-form players in January could be – and Wilson is certainly in form right now.
