Five facts on reported Rangers target James Lawrence

Wales international James Lawrence could be a player that Rangers could turn to this summer amid reported interest.

Rangers have already returned to pre-season as they prepare for the new campaign as the transfer rumour mill will continue to circulate in these coming months.

The Daily Record have claimed that the Gers are keen on signing Anderlecht defender James Lawrence, with a fee of £3 million being mooted for the 27-year-old.

Depending on a fans’ knowledge of European football, there may be a fair few Rangers supporters who may not know much about the defensive powerhouse.

Here are five facts about Lawrence, who has been reportedly attracting interest from the Glasgow giants this summer:

1. Not many British players have just played outside of their own shores and made a name for themselves. Well, it seems as though Lawrence has done that for himself. During his senior career so far, he has represented Slovakian side AS Trencin, as he currently plys his trade for Belgian side Anderlecht.

2. During his teenage years, Lawrence was part of Ajax’s academy, but he failed to make a single appearance for the Dutch giants.

3. Despite being an unknown figure in Wales, Lawrence’s father and his agent made the Football Association of Wales known about his eligibility for the country and he made his debut for Ryan Giggs’s side in November 2018 against Albania.

4. Lawrence is a centre-back by trade and the left-footed player can also operate as a left-back, which could be of interest to the Ibrox faithful.

5. During the recently concluded campaign, Lawrence played 35 games in all competitions for Anderlecht, helping them to a top-six finish in the Belgian Pro League. He also participated in six Europa League qualifying matches [transfermarkt].
