Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Torino’s Soualiho Meite.
It’s that time of year again; the transfer window is open, and Tottenham fans are filled with hope rather than expectation of new signings.
A host of names are being linked with a move to Spurs this month, which is no great shock given that they didn’t sign any new players over the summer.
The latest name being linked with a move to North London is Torino’s Soualiho Meite, with Gazzetta Dello Sport today reporting that Spurs are preparing a major push to sign him.
Some Spurs fans may not be too familiar with Meite, so here are five facts about the midfielder who could join Mauricio Pochettino’s men…
1. Meite, 24, started out in the academy of Auxerre, coming up through their ranks much like players such as Philippe Mexes and Djibril Cisse did in the past.
2. He headed off to Lille in 2013, and only ever made 41 appearances for their first team, spending 18 months on loan at Belgian side Zulte Waregem instead.
3. Meite still earned a 2017 move to Monaco, but struggled to break through there too, spending the second half of last season on loan at Bordeaux.
4. The midfielder moved on again to Torino last summer, making it seven different clubs in five years in a hugely nomadic spell. Now settled in Italy, Meite has two goals and one assist in 18 Serie A games.
5. Born in Paris, Meite has no international caps to his name but intriguingly turned down the chance to play for the Ivory Coast in 2017; something which could yet come up again down the line.
