The January transfer window may still be fresh in the memories of many, but rumours about the summer transfer window are already gearing up.

Everton are likely to be in the market for reinforcements after a quiet January, especially with Marco Silva presiding over an underwhelming Premier League campaign so far.

The Toffees may seek defensive additions with Phil Jagielka nearing the end of his career, though Mason Holgate’s return from West Brom will give Silva another option.

The Daily Mail report that Everton are keen on FC Basel’s Eray Comert though, and were weighing up a move to sign him during the January window, with a summer move potentially in the pipeline.

With Arsenal also reportedly interested, here are five facts about the young defender…

1. Comert, 21, was born in Basel but actually started out his career with Concordia Basel, but left for FC Basel back in 2009.

2. Comert has enjoyed two loan spells away from Basel, heading out to Swiss sides Lugano and Sion in order to pick up experience elsewhere.

3. The centre back has made 23 appearances for Basel this season, scoring twice as he has impressed in the league and in European qualifiers.

4. Whilst born in Switzerland, Comert is of Turkish descent, meaning that he could yet play for Turkey despite already having youth caps for Switzerland.

5. Standing at just 6ft tall, Comert isn’t the biggest of centre backs, but he has a decent turn of pace and could complement a giant centre back like Yerry Mina well at Everton.
