Swansea City have been linked with making another swoop on La Liga.
La Liga has been a happy hunting ground for Swansea over the past 12 months. They convinced manager Michael Laudrup to give up on Spanish football and join the Premier League side and a host of stars have followed since.
Michu has been a terrific success, with Chico Flores and Pablo Hernandez following suit. So it is no surprise the Swans are looking to Iberia for more bargain buys.
The latest name they are linked with is Joan Verdu, of Espanyol, with Spanish outlet AS claiming the player is being watched by Michael Laudrup.
Most importantly he could be available on a free transfer as his contract expires this summer.
So who is he and what can we tell you about him?
1) Verdu is a 29-year-old attacking midfielder who wears Espanyol’s number 10 shirt.
2) This season he has been in fine form for his club, scoring seven goals and assisting three.
3) Verdu is a product of the Barcelona youth academy, playing more than 130 times for the ‘B’ team but not once for the first team.
4) He got his big chance at Deportivo where he signed in 2006, providing back-up for and eventually displacing playmaker Juan Carlos Valeron.
5) Verdu has never been capped for Spain, but he has played for Catalonia, most recently starring alongside the likes of Xavi and Puyol in a 1-1 draw with Nigeria in January.
Here he is doing what he does best…
Is Verdu another gem Swansea should try to sign?
