The Monaco striker has been linked with a move to Southampton.

It is clear that Southampton need to sign a new striker, with no player in their squad having scored more than six goals this season.

It appears that Southampton have identified Monaco’s Guido Carrillo as the player to solve that issue, with the club having agreed a £19.1 million deal for the Argentine, as reported by The Guardian.

Ahead of Carrillo’s expected move to St Mary’s, here are five facts about the 26-year-old.

1) Carrillo commenced his career with Estudiantes, for whom he scored 36 goals in 132 games across all competitions.

2) Since joining Monaco in 2015, Carillo has scored 21 times in 95 appearances, while he has also impressed with his link-up play as he has provided nine assists.

3) Carillo is 6 feet 2 inches tall (1.91 metres) and frequently makes good use of his height by winning many headers and knocking the ball on for his team-mates.

4) The attacker helped Monaco to win the Ligue 1 title, contributing with seven top flight goals.

5) If Carillo does join Southampton for £19.1 million then he will become the club’s record signing, eclipsing the £18 million paid for Mario Lemina last summer.
