The summer transfer window is still a couple of months away, but Leeds United are already being linked with potential signings.

The Whites are chasing promotion to the Premier League, so don’t even know what division they’ll be in next season, but one target has emerged in the last 24 hours.

Tuttomercatoweb in Italy report that Cagliari, Fiorentina and Sampdoria all want Boca Juniors ace Nahitan Nandez, but Leeds are challenging them in the race for his signature.

Fans may not be too familiar with Nandez, so here are five things to know about the midfielder as Leeds allegedly pursue his signature…

1. Nandez, 23, emerged with Penarol in his native Uruguay, where he became their youngest ever captain, hitting eight goals in 87 games to earn his move to Boca in 2017.

2. In a Boca shirt, Nandez has notched six goals and four assists in 48 games, as well as racking up 14 yellow cards due to his combative nature.

3. Nandez was a part of the Uruguay squad at the World Cup last summer, playing in every game of his country’s run to the quarter-finals of the competition.

4. Diminutive at just 5ft 7in tall, Nandez is small but determined and energetic, as well as versatile; he’s played in holding midfield, central midfield and on the right flank.

5. FIFA noted that, when Nandez arrived at Boca and scored a couple of goals, he was coined ‘Baby Rooney’ after the former Manchester United star, though that nickname has faded with time.
