Newcastle United have unveiled their first signing of the summer.
What can we tell you about him?
1) Romain Amalfitano was signed on a free transfer from French club Reims. He scored three goals in 19 starts inLigue 2 club in 2011/12, helping them clinch promotion.
2) He is just 22, and plays as an attacking midfielder, most comfortable on the right. He will compete with fellow Frenchmen Sylvain Marveaux and Gabriel Obertan, as well as Hatem Ben Arfa for a first team place, but his versatility is seen as an asset.
3) His older brother is Morgan Amalfitano, a 27-year-old midfielder who plays for Marseille and who earned his first international call-up this year.
4) He scored his first goal of last season against a Monaco side boasting Champions League winner Ludovic Giuly
5) Former Newcastle star Olivier Bernard has tipped him to be as big as Yohan Cabaye, describing his as ‘very skilful’ and a ‘good passer’.
