New boss Michael Laudrup has sealed the one-year loan signing of Jonathan de Guzman for Swansea City.
What can we tell you about him?
1) De Guzman was born in Canada, to Jamaican and Filipino parents. He is a Dutch citizen and played for Holland’s under-21 team. He has a brother who is an international for Canada.
2) He began his career with Feyenoord, where he made his name – scoring 26 goals, before signing with Mallorca, and then signing with Villareal on transfer deadline day last year.
3) His spell at Swansea will be his second with Michael Laudrup, who managed him at Mallorca.
4) De Guzman is an attacking midfielder who can play in a variety of midfield positions. Last year he featured centrally, on the left, and the right, and also in the holding midfield role. He scored two goals last season, one of which came in the Champions League.
5) Back in 2008, De Guzman came close to a transfer to Manchester City before injury scuppered his chances of a move. They signed Shaun Wright-Phillips instead, and were bought by Sheikh Mansour shortly after.
