Sunderland snapped up midfielder Cabral earlier this month. So what do Premier League fans need to know about him?
Sunderland announced a triple signing earlier this month, with new boss Paolo di Canio trying to get his summer business off to a quick start.
Along with Modibo Diakite and Valentin Roberge, the Black Cats snapped up Cabral on a free transfer.
Here are five facts about the midfielder we can expect to see playing in the Premier League in 2013/14…
1) Cabral was born in the Cape Verde Islands but was eligible to play for Switzerland, representing them at under-21 level, before selecting to play with his country of birth in late 2012.
2) Full name Adilson Tavares Varela, he is a 24-year-old defensive midfielder whose versatility means he can also play in central defence.
3) Cabral signed from FC Basel, where he played a key role in their role to the Europa League semi-finals this season, playing 46 games for the club in 2012/13 in total.
4) Cabral is the cousin of Gelson Fernandes, who played for Manchester City and hit a memorable winner over Spain for Switzerland at the 2010 World Cup.
5) He has scored just five goals in his career, with the most memorable being the strike in a Champions League game against Roma.
