Newly promoted Premier League side Southampton have swooped for the Burnley striker, with a club record £6 million fee.
What do you need to know about Rodriguez?
1) Despite being born in the Lancashire town of Burnley, exotically-named Rodriguez is half-Spanish. His dad, Enrique Rodriguez was a semi-professional footballer, who once had a trial with Deportivo La Coruna.
2) Just 22, he has made more than 100 appearances for hometown club Burnley, scoring 31 goals. He bagged 21 in 42 games last season, his most successful to date.
3) His excellent performances last season earned the praise of his fellow professionals, who voted him into the PFA Championship Team of the Year.
4) One of his most memorable goals came in 2009, a late strike earning Burnley a 3-2 Carling Cup semi-final win over Tottenham in 90 minutes, taking the tie to extra time – which Spurs went on to win 6-4 on aggregate.
5) Rodriguez was previously selected for Stuart Pearce’s England under-21 side, and will hope goals in the Premier League propel him towards the reckoning for England’s senior team.
