Aston Villa swooped late on deadline day to sign Christian Benteke from Genk. Who is he?
Here are five facts about Villa’s final signing of the transfer window…
1) Benteke is a striker who has played his entire career in Belgium, with Genk, Standard Liege, and a loan spell and Kortrijk.
2) He had scored three goals in five Jupiler League matches this season prior to Aston Villa signing him, and also featured in three Europa League qualifying matches.
3) Benteke is only 21, and last season recorded 18 goals and 11 assists for Genk.
4) While born in Congo, Benteke is a Belgian international, and scored his first goal for his country last month in a 4-2 win over Holland in which West Brom loanee Romelu Lukaku also scored.
5) Benteke has an impressive record in youth team football for Belgium. He scored six in 11 games for the under-17s, and 10 in 10 games for his country’s under-19 side
