The Benfica playmaker has also been linked with Manchester City. What can we tell you about him?
The midfielder is back in the news today, with Benfica’s club president confirming they are willing to sell their stars this summer. Could he be heading to Manchester?
1) Nicolas Gaitan is aged 23 and is already a full international for Argentina, having made six appearances.
2) He was signed by Benfica from Boca Juniors for £7.2 million in 2010, the club would expect a fee of around £30 million for him now.
3) He is an attacking midfielder who can play centrally or on the left wing and has been compared to Juan Roman Riquelme in his homeland.
4) Gaitan played twice against Manchester United this season, in a 1-1 draw at home and in a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. In the Champions League he has provided more assists than any other player this season with five.
5) He is only 5 foot 7 in height, exactly the same as Manchester City’s David Silva.
