Manchester United have confirmed the transfer of Crewe Alexandra attacker Nick Powell.

United have sealed a £4 million deal for Powell, who hit a superb goal in the League Two play-off final for Crewe.

In honour of that we are republishing our article from last month when he was first linked with the club.

Here are five facts about him…

1) Powell is an 18-year-old who has already played more than 50 games for Crewe, and became the second youngest player ever to make his debut for the club in 2010.

2) He is the only player to win all the end of season awards at Crewe’s player of the season ceremony, including an award for goal of the season, player of the year, and young player of the season.

3) This season he has scored 16 goals in 45 games for his club, including the crucial play-off final winner, as well providing seven assists.

4) He follows the footsteps of Dean Ashton and Danny Murphy in coming through Crewe’s youth system, and has played for England’s under-16, under-17, and under-18 sides, and has been hailed as being potentially the club’s ‘best ever’ graduate.

5) Powell is listed officially as a striker, but says his preferred position is to play behind, to allow his creativity to flourish, in a similar way to Wayne Rooney, and can also play as an attacking midfielder.
