Liverpool have been strongly linked with the Swedish midfielder, what can we tell you about him?
Here are five facts you should know…
1) Rasmus Elm is 24 and currently plays for Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, who sit fifth in the Eredivisie. He has been part of their squad since 2009 when he signed from Swedish side Kalmar.
2) His goalscoring record for Alkmaar has doubt helped attract Liverpool’s attention. This season he has 10 goals from 31 games, most creditable for a midfield player.
3) Elm is a Swedish international who has represented his nation at every level from under-17 upwards, and has 22 full caps. He will be a part of Sweden’s side to take on England at Euro 2012 this summer, where he is likely to go toe-to-toe with Steven Gerrard in central midfield. Elm played for Sweden at Wembley last autumn, coming up against Liverpool’s Stewart Downing.
4) Elm is rated at around £8 million, but AZ Alkmaar have publicly gone on record stating they have no desire to sell- which could push his price up. Liverpool are one of a number of clubs interested in another Eredivisie star, striker Luuk de Jong, who has bagged 30 goals this season at Twente, and how much they are willing to spend may depend on that deal and how much funds are available at Anfield.
5) He has a brother, David Elm, who has already played in the Premier League. The striker was signed by Roy Hodgson at Fulham for £500,000, but only scored one goal, against Burnley, and was sold to Swedish side Elfsborg last summer.
