Chelsea teenager Feruz bagged the winner in the first leg of the FA Youth Cup semi-final on Friday against Manchester United.
What can we tell you about the highly rated young player?
1) Feruz is a striker who is rated as an exceptional prospect, aged only 16. He is the top scorer in Chelsea’s youth team this season, with 10 goals. His assets include his pace, his direct running, and explosive shot.
2) He was a former Celtic youth team player and caused huge controversy when he left to sign professional terms at Chelsea in September, with Neil Lennon blaming his agent, saying the player had been ‘badly advised.’
3) He was born in Somalia and was granted asylum after a personal plea from Celtic legend Tommy Burns.
4) Despite the controversy north of the border, he is a Scottish youth international, and Scotland under-17 coach Ricky Sbragia hopes he will link up with the side in a fortnight for the first time in 12 months.
5) He has been touted in Scotland since even before making a first team appearance for Celtic, in a tribute match for Tommy Burns after his death, when he was aged just 14. He has been dubbed the ‘Scottish Wayne Rooney’ but could still opt to choose to play for Somalia at full international level.
