Five facts about Carlos Vinicius; the talented striker linked to Tottenham

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are in talks with Benfica over a loan deal for Carlos Vinicius

The potential agreement for the Brazilian is likely to include a £36 million option to buy.

Jose Mourinho has been desperate for a new striker all summer, and had revealed he was confident of securing one while also saying that those above him were doing all they could to fulfil his wishes.

Sky Sports quote him as saying: ‘I want a striker. But I want to make it very clear that the club – if you want to call it the club or the structure above me – knows I need a striker and they also want a striker.’

Now, it looks as if the ex-Chelsea boss is getting closer to obtaining what he wants.

However, what do you know about the Benfica striker potentially set to grace the Premier League?

1. He’s only been at Benfica for a season. Vinicius joined the Portuguese giants from Napoli in a £15 million deal last year, but already looks set to jet off.

2. He was involved in 37 goals last season in just 47 games. The Brazilian showcased his ability to score and also create with 24 goals and 13 assists.

3. Transfermarkt shows the 25-year-old is also able to operate on the left-wing as well as at centre-forward. This could allow Mourinho to play him and Harry Kane together, if Son Heung-min or Steven Bergwijn are ever unavailable.

4. Vinicius actually started his career as a defender, according to The Evening Standard. After joining Real SC, he began to play as a striker on a more regular basis.

5. The Benfica No.95 spent time at some of Brazil’s most famous clubs during his youth career, including Santos and Palmeiras – the latter side were the ones to sell Gabriel Jesus to Manchester City.
