Who will be the next Leeds United manager?

Leeds United’s managerial search is back at square one after odds on favourite Darrell Clarke rejected the chance to manage the Whites, renewing his contract with Bristol Rovers instead, the club initially confirmed via Twitter.

The Championship side have received knock backs also from MK Dons boss Karl Robinson, while linked bosses Giuseppe Iachini and Ivan Juric have agreed to take new posts in Italy, and early favourite John Sheridan has taken a job with Notts County.

This is all despite Massimo Cellino’s claim to The Mirror yesterday that ‘a lot of managers’ want the Leeds job.

Here is a look at five potential appointments at Elland Road…

Brian McDermott

If Brian McDermott went back to work for Massimo Cellino once again he would be a glutton for punishment, but he is suddenly available after his surprise dismissal by Reading.

McDermott has always maintained an affinity for his time at Leeds, but Cellino would have to admit a mistake by re-appointing him.

Luis Lopez

Former Cagliari boss Luis Lopez has worked under Cellino before, and odds on his potential appointment were cut this week to as short as 10/1.

The Uruguayan would be a surprise choice, but Cellino is anything but predictable.

Neil Warnock

Another former Leeds boss, Neil Warnock would not stand for any interference on Cellino’s part in team affairs.

His stock is high after an excellent spell at Rotherham United, and he has recently been linked to positions at Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest.

Massimo Rastelli

The current Cagliari boss, Rastelli helped the Italian side win promotion back to Serie A this past season and is highly regarded.

Cellino is not afraid to ruffle a few feathers, and would likely have no qualms about upsetting Cagliari fans by trying to pinch their manager away.

Perhaps Cellino will not have a choice, but to go with Steve Evans after all?

The Scotsman has been treated terribly by Cellino who has pursued new bosses while Evans remains in post, but he is adamant he can get the team promoted and the view of many fans is that he deserves a shot at doing so.
