Newcastle United are among the clubs linked with members of Bolton’s relegated side.
The relegation will hurt Bolton Wanderers, and it will pain them especially if they lose any of these five stars.
Mark Davies
The under-rated Mark Davies is reported to be a target for Newcastle. The midfielder is an excellent footballer and would be available for under £5 million. For that price he would be a steal, and another bargain signing for Alan Pardew’s side. The 24-year-old can play in a variety of positions across the midfield, and scored four goals last season, including one on the final day which almost kept his side up.
Martin Petrov
Winger Martin Petrov was one of Bolton’s most productive players at times this season. He was excellent in the survival run-in, and had his moments early on, but struggled to make an impact in the middle of the season. Nonetheless he is a player who can turn games, and is an talented crosser of the ball. He would be an asset to any of the promoted sides, and still has a lot to offer.
Kevin Davies
Age 35, at times this season it seemed like Kevin Davies’ age was finally catching up with him. He burst into life towards the end of the season, showing teams that he can still be a useful threat, and scored six times in total. Sunderland were linked with a deal in January, and they may rekindle their interest, but Davies’ style would suit the unorthodox Stoke City, and Tony Pulis will no doubt consider making a bid this summer.
Lee Chung-Yong
Korean midfielder Lee Chung-Yong missed nearly the entire season with a broken leg, making just two substitute appearances. Had he remained fit, Bolton may well have stayed up. The 23-year-old remains a great talent, previously linked with Liverpool, and remains that despite his injury. He may present a gamble for some, but he could be a bargain if he can recover his form, and because of his young age he will tempt a number of clubs.
Chris Eagles
Chris Eagles will be gutted to find himself back in the Championship after leaving Burnley for Bolton, and will want to move on if he can. The winger scored four goals last season and created six others, and was always trying to make an impression last season. Age 26 the former Manchester United trainee still has a lot to offer, and he will hope he can find a Premier League club willing to sign him. Again, a side like Stoke or a newly promoted club could well make a bid.
