Five absolutely absurd replacements for Pep Guardiola at Barcelona

Bosses with experience at Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Wolves and West Ham could surely bring something to the table at the Nou Camp, right?

OK a bit of Friday afternoon fun here; With Guardiola on his way out of Barcelona, who could be taking his place?

Well we know Tito Villenova has been announced, but surely when the club learn of these five men’s availability they will change their minds?

‘Arry Redknapp

Spurs should forget losing their boss to England- could he be heading to Barcelona instead?! Just imagine what a legendary wheeler dealer like ‘Arry could do with Barcelona’s resources. Barcelona have no plan B? Not for much longer, Redknapp will bring in Louis Saha on a free and problem solved. Imagine Ryan Nelsen lining up alongside Gerard Pique in defence. They’d be unbeatable.

Terry Connor

If a shrewd manager like Terry Connor took over at Barcelona, the world would be his oyster. He has managed to get a superb two points so far with a truly pathetic Wolves side, so with a squad like Barcelona’s at his disposal he would be unstoppable. He would likely bring in Big Mick as an assistant, to help get the best out players like Lionel Messi. The Wolves ‘dream team’ would hope to bring ‘destroyer’ Karl Henry in, and likely send Xavi the other way.

Alex McLeish

‘Relegation specialist’ Alex McLeish can bring title-winning experience to Barcelona. Despite once finishing third in the two-horse race that is the SPL, McLeish led Rangers to several trophies. With the La Liga dubbed the ‘Scottish league’ nowadays due to Barcelona and Madrid’s dominance, surely there is no better man for the job? Forget tiki-taka football though, Barcelona fans will surely forgive playing for a draw if it means not losing to Hercules again, right?

Diego Maradona

Now this is an appointment we would love to see. A Barcelona player in the mid-80s, ‘crazy Diego’ could build on his World Cup experience with Argentina. Would he love another opportunity to boss Lionel Messi again? We would no doubt see all sorts of unimaginable antics with Maradona in charge, madder than even we could predict. Perhaps he would bench Messi every game in an effort to show that in fact he, is the greatest footballer of all time.

Alan Curbishley

This one makes perfect sense. Ever since leaving West Ham, Curbishley has been waiting for the right job. Finally it is here. Despite being linked with pretty much every vacant post, he has turned them all down, knowing there was something better round the corner. We bet Curbs has booked his plane ticket already and his sun tan cream and will be pitching up in a tent outside the Nou Camp any day now, waiting for his invite in.

Have we been harsh in leaving Steve Kean off the list? Who are your ‘absurd’ replacements for Guardiola?
