Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers let go of Lewis Morgan, and now the former Gers prospect is reportedly on the verge of joining Old Firm rivals and Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic.

St Mirren chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick has praised former Rangers youth player Lewis Morgan and has backed him to be a success at Celtic, as quoted by The Glasgow Evening Times.

Morgan started his career at Rangers, but the youngster was let go by the Ibrox club in 2013 and he subsequently moved to St. Mirren.

The 21-year-old midfielder has established himself at the Saints and is one of the best players in the Scottish Championship.

According to BBC Sport, Celtic are close to signing Morgan from St. Mirren for a transfer fee of around £300,000 and will then loan him out to Jack Ross’s side for the rest of the 2017-18 season.

St Mirren chief executive Fitzpatrick has pretty much confirmed the deal to Celtic, and has also praised Morgan for recovering from the setback at Rangers to be on the verge of joining the Hoops.

Fitzpatrick told The Glasgow Evening Times: “Lewis Morgan is a really, really exciting talent, and in normal circumstances, he is a million-pound player.

“He’s got two great feet, he’s got pace, he’s exciting, and he’s a great lad. When you talk about wanting to be a top player, then he’s a very impressive young man, and when you speak to him and he’s got that plan in his head.

“That’s the difference with Lewis. Ability-wise, there is a reason you are going to Celtic Park, and in terms of ability, Lewis is as good as anything at Celtic if I’m being honest.”

“The kid has put up with a lot,” added Fitzpatrick. “You have to remember that he was discarded by Rangers. He was told he was too small to be a football player.

“There will be kids out there getting let go just now, and they’ll think their world is over. Instead of buckling, he had that belief inside of him to say ‘no, they are wrong.”

Morgan is only 21 years of age and he still has to improve and learn, but there is no doubt that in the long run he would be a good signing for Celtic.

It would also make perfect sense for the Glasgow giants to allow him to stay at St. Mirren for the rest of the season instead of bringing him to Celtic Park in January.
