Kevin Campbell has backed the idea of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal signing Tottenham Hotspur transfer target James Maddison from Leicester City.
One thing is for sure, James Maddison will be on the move this summer following Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship on the last day of the 2022/23 Premier League season.
It’s just a case of where will he end up. For Campbell, he stated that the England international would ‘fit into Arsenal’s squad’ and that he is someone that’s ‘more dynamic’ than Martin Odegaard, as he told Egal Talks Football.

Arsenal’s man with the armband just produced the best season of his career and he could easily put himself alongside Kevin de Bruyne in the best XI for the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.
Odegaard scored 15 goals in 37 games from the middle of the park, whilst Maddison netted ten from 30 games for a team that went down.
Those were serious numbers from the Foxes man, but when Campbell was asked whether or not he would sign the former Norwich City player, he issued the following response.
“I like Maddison,” said Campbell. “I think he’s a really good player.
“Could he fit our squad? Of course, he could fit our squad. We have Odegaard, but he’s a different type of player to Odegaard. They have some traits that are similar, where they can pick a pass.
“But I think James Maddison is a little bit more dynamic. He’s willing to get into the box a little bit more.”

MADDISON WOULD ELEVATE ARSENAL AMID TOTTENHAM INTEREST
The benchmark is Manchester City and, as they have proven over the years, they have two top-class players for each position.
As of this moment, it’s Fabio Vieira who is the backup to Odegaard, but if Arsenal splashed the cash on Maddison, then that would get elevated somewhat – but their neighbours, Tottenham Hotspur, have also been long-term admirers of the player.
It will be interesting to see just how far the boat is pushed out this summer by both clubs because they are facing very different challenges compared to 12 months ago.
