Arsenal have been encouraged to make a move to sign Ivan Toney.

The Gunners might dip into the January transfer market for a striker this winter.

That’s because Gabriel Jesus has been sidelined until March with a knee injury and despite scoring on Boxing Day, doubts remain over whether Eddie Nketiah can fill that void until the South American is back.

The Brentford hitman scored against Tottenham on Monday to make it 11 Premier League goals this season.

The former Newcastle United youth marksman has out-scored Nketiah and Jesus combined now since August.

And Darren Bent believes that the 26-year-old is tailor-made for somebody like Arsenal, after tweeting out:

Is Bent right?

Well he’s right in saying that Toney is a remarkable goalscorer and one who could quite easily hit the 20-goal mark in the Premier League, which would be a terrific return by anyone’s standards.

But will the Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta be tempted by him? Potentially not.

Firstly, he is a little old for Arteta’s liking, with the Spaniard and Edu regularly targeting players under the age of 25.

And with him being English, well the Bees can demand a fortune for him and paying through the nose for someone in January isn’t really the Arsenal way, nor has it ever been.
