Don Hutchison has told ESPN that he’d love to see Liverpool go out and bring a certain Joao Felix to Anfield during the summer transfer window.
The Portugal international joined Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019 for £122 million, having been linked with a move to the Reds prior to that.
Felix struggled in a big way during Atletico’s Champions League defeat by Chelsea in midweek.
For such a talented player, the 21-year-old spent much of the game on the periphery of things and former Liverpool star Hutchison would love to see him on Merseyside.
He said, when asked if Jurgen Klopp’s side – who are 19 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City – will be better next term: “Absolutely and the first player I would sign is Joao Felix. He’d be the first player I would sign because he is wasted there.”
Will this happen? In a word, no.
Atleti are safe from any interest from Liverpool.
It’s obvious that Klopp needs to strengthen his defence more than anything else and although there’s an argument to be made that an attacking midfielder of Felix’s ilk might be necessary, it shouldn’t and won’t take priority over other areas.
