Rangers picked up a second straight win over Aberdeen this afternoon by beating the Dons 2-1 at Pittodrie.

The Gers beat Aberdeen 3-0 at Ibrox in midweek, and completed a superb double over Derek McInnes’ men as Graeme Murty picks up two outstanding victories.

Deploying a midfield diamond once again, Rangers took the lead in the first half on Sunday afternoon as Danny Wilson rose highest to send a superb header into the net from Declan John’s free kick.

The Gers then had Ryan Jack sent off on his first return to Pittodrie since leaving Aberdeen for Rangers over the summer, but Josh Windass swooped to turn home James Tavernier’s cross to put Murty’s men 2-0 up.

Frank Ross hit a stunning free kick to bring Aberdeen back into the game, but Rangers managed to hold on and claim their 2-1 victory at Pittodrie in a superb performance.

A number of players impressed, but Josh Windass again grabbed the headlines with his second goal in two games since being pushed into a striking role in Murty’s new formation.

During and after the game, Rangers fans took to Twitter to hail Windass, suggesting that he should be the first name on the teamsheet given his recent form.

Others noted that Windass – signed by Mark Warburton in 2016 – is now looking like a different player having been played in a position which suits him, and backed him to form a dangerous strike partnership with Alfredo Morelos.
