Fiorentina’s contract extension talks with goalkeeper Neto aren’t going well, fuelling speculation that the Brazilian may be headed for Liverpool.
Liverpool are expected to move for a back-up goalkeeper in January and Fiorentina’s Neto may be a sensible option.
The 25-year-old is widely regarded as one of Serie A’s safest pairs of hands and he may also be available at a bargain price in January.
As Neto’s contract expires in June 2015, Fiorentina may be forced to accept a low offer unless they can persuade him to recommit to the club by signing a new deal.
Neto’s recent form and links with big clubs such as Liverpool seem to have created a stumbling block in negotiations, which are said to be moving slowly.
The paper suggests that Fiorentina missed a trick by failing to secure the renewal in the summer when Neto was demanding around £800,000 per year and the club put £700,000 on the table.
It is suggested that Neto now wants at least £1.1 million, but that salary is small compared to what he could earn should he move to Liverpool.
