Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso thinks Nicolas Gonzalez will stay at the Serie A club amid interest from Premier League trio Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City, speaking to Italia7.
La Viola supporters have been here before, of course.
Commisso, during the summer of 2020, insisted that he was confident of retaining Federico Chiesa, weeks before accepting a bid from Fiorentina’s arch rivals Juventus. Fans of the Florence-based outfit may be taking the president’s words with a months supply of McDonalds’ salt, then, with Leicester launching a £30 million bid for Argentina international Gonzalez.

According to Gianluca di Marzio, Leicester want Gonzalez at the King Power Stadium. Per 90Min, there is a belief, too, that the former Stuttgart forward is ‘keen’ on joining a Foxes side hovering nervously over the relegation zone, despite interest from better placed clubs such as high-flying Newcastle and long-time admirers Tottenham.

“Nico Gonzalez? Does he stay? I think yes,” Commisso says in typically bullish fashion. “The offers? It means that our players are worth it, but we must see what we (decide to) do.”
Commisso is not the only one at the Stadio Artemio Franchi expecting to see the stylish, left-footed Gonzalez strut his stuff in Viola violet come February.
“There is a value in Fiorentina. But I think they (the Gonzalez claims) are just rumours,” head coach Vincenzo Italiano tells Tuttomercatoweb.
“I saw Nico with a great desire to return (after injury). He’s pushing hard in training. I’ve never opened up discussions, the only intention is to have Gonzalez of last year back.”
There is, however, more to this situation than idle paper talk. ‘Just rumours’? Not quite.
According to Football Italia, Gonzalez remains in talks with Leicester. Though player and club appear to be far apart in negotiations. The Foxes reportedly want to include a relegation clause in Gonzalez’s contract; one that would allow them to dock his wages if the end the season in the Premier League’s bottom three.
Fiorentina, Football Italia add, are also holding out for more than £30 million for Gonzalez.
