Alfred Finnbogason has discussed his previous links with Celtic.
Iceland striker Alfred Finnbogason has told the Scottish Daily Mail (Press Reader) that joining Celtic would have been a ‘nice story’, but he never had to make a decision about joining the Bhoys.
Finnbogason, 29, has featured for Iceland at the World Cup this summer, and scored in the 1-1 draw with Argentina in an impressive performance.
The Augsburg hitman sadly couldn’t fire Iceland beyond the group stage of the competition, but he may have attracted some interest based on his displays leading the Iceland attack.
Finnbogason should be a familiar name to many Celtic fans, having been heavily linked with a move to Glasgow during his time with Dutch side Heerenveen, where hit 59 goals in 70 games.

Since then, Finnbogason has struggled through a poor spell with Real Sociedad, scored just twice in 13 games for Olympiacos, and hit 22 goals in 51 appearances for German side Augsburg.
Whether Celtic regret missing out on Finnbogason four years ago is unclear, and for the Celtic staff to answer, but he has now discussed those links to the Bhoys.
Speaking to the Scottish Daily Mail (Press Reader), he admitted that joining the Bhoys would have been a ‘nice story’, but their interest never advanced enough to the point where he had to make a decision, and he is happy with how his career has gone.
“This rumour (about Celtic) has been around many times, especially when I was playing at Heerenveen,” said Finnbogason. “I know there was interest at some point but it never got so far that I had to make a decision about it. It would have been a nice story but I am quite happy with how my career has gone – with all its highs and lows,” he added.
