Pat Bonner has claimed that Leigh Griffiths is ‘finished as a Celtic player’ following his woes on Saturday.
Griffiths was handed a rare chance to impress in the first XI yesterday as the Hoops thumped Falkirk 3-0 at Parkhead.
But the 30-year-old, making his first start since January, spurned two goalscoring chances that he would have converted with his eyes closed a few years ago.
Celtic interim boss John Kennedy hauled him off after an hour and former Bhoys star Bonner just cannot see the Scotland international surviving beyond this season.
He told BBC Sportsound: “Yeah I think he’s finished as a Celtic player. He’s gone down the pecking order.”
Thing is, Griffiths, on his day, is an absolute goal machine.
Remember, he scored 40 times during the 2015-16 campaign and it wasn’t even that long ago, but injuries and personal issues have made it a difficult last few years for the former Wolves marksman.
That being said, Eddie Howe is strongly fancied to become the new Celtic manager soon and if and when that materialises, it might give Griffiths the incentive needed to improve.
