Southampton fans went wild on Twitter after finally seeing Mohammed Salisu named on the bench for the first time since his arrival.

The Saints signed the highly-rated centre-back from Real Valladolid for £10.9 million in the summer.

However, Ralph Hasenhuttl had left him out of every Premier League squad so far this season prior to the win over Brighton, as Transfermarkt shows.

At the Amex Stadium, the Ghanaian was finally named amongst the substitutes, much to the delight of the Southampton supporters on Twitter.

It’s very strange that Hasenhuttl hasn’t named the 21-year-old on the bench more often. It’s understandable that the summer signing hasn’t been making the starting XI, as Jannik Vestergaard and Jan Bednarek thrive together.

However, surely it would be beneficial to place Salisu among the substitutes and get him in the midst of dressing room tactics – it would help broaden his experience of the English game as he settles in.

It’s not a huge issue, admittedly, as the Saints sit fifth in the Premier League and are flying under the former RB Leipzig manager.

In regards to Salisu’s development, however, we think Hasenhuttl should get him involved in the matchday squad more often from this point on.

Let’s see how the Southampton fans on Twitter reacted to his inclusion on the bench…
