Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react after Illan Meslier’s chances of representing France’s Under-21 side were boosted.

The Leeds No.1 was set to be on the bench for France’s U21 EURO 2020 quarter-final tie against the Netherlands.

As good as Meslier is, Lafont has earned 14 caps for France at this level, and is Sylvain Ripoll’s undisputed No.1.

However, the FC Nantes glovesman has been forced to withdraw from the squad, due to the Ligue 1 outfit’s relegation play-off.

It is now very likely that Meslier starts for France’s Under-21 side against the Netherlands on May 31st.

Should they progress, the 21-year-old will presumably remain in between the sticks for the semi-final and then the final – should he do well, that is.

His chance may have come in unusual circumstances, but this is nothing more than Meslier deserves – he has been outstanding this season.

Regardless of Lafont’s relegation play-off with FC Nantes, you could’ve argued that Meslier deserved to be starting anyway.

The Leeds shot-stopper kept an impressive 11 clean sheets in 35 Premier League appearances this season.

Along the way, he pulled off some jaw-dropping saves, and commanded his area with the experience of a 31-year-old, let alone a 21-year-old.

Let’s see what the Leeds fans on Twitter have been saying after hearing about Meslier’s opportunity…
