Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after Andy Madley was appointed to oversee the Premier League clash with Southampton.

What’s the story?

Well, Aston Villa take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Friday at 8pm, as Dean Smith looks to overturn this horrendous run of form.

The Villans have lost four games in a row, and will also be without Ezri Konsa for three games after his red card against West Ham.

Smith’s job is on the line, as things are pretty miserable at Villa Park.

However, some Aston Villa fans below have been buoyed by the news that Madley will officiate tomorrow’s game, as they have a good record under him.

As Transfermarkt shows, the Villans have won nine of the 16 games in which Madley has been in charge of proceedings.

Aston Villa have also drawn five of these games, meaning they’ve lost just twice under Madley.

Additionally, the 38-year-old has awarded Smith’s side four penalties throughout his refereeing career.

Things are very tense at Villa Park right now, and if Smith suffers a fifth defeat in a row, things may turn toxic.

According to the Daily Mail, Paulo Fonseca has been approached as the Villans explore their options, just in case Smith cannot turn things around.

In our view, he deserves more time in the dugout, given his fine work so far at Villa Park.

The 50-year-old guided Aston Villa back to the Premier League, and also oversaw an impressive 11th place finish last season.

The Villans are smart to explore their options, but it would be extremely harsh to pull the trigger on Smith anytime soon.

For now, let’s see what the Aston Villa fans on Twitter have been saying about Madley…
