Liverpool are set to extend Alisson’s contract until the year 2026.
That is according to reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has revealed on Twitter that the ‘agreement is in the final stages’.
The Brazilian goalkeeper is contracted to Liverpool until 2024 as things stand, having joined for £66 million from Roma back in the summer of 2018.
Alisson has proven himself a huge player for Jurgen Klopp after struggling for large parts of the 2020-21 campaign.
The big man endured a few uncharacteristic error-prone performances, before then losing his father in tragic circumstances earlier this year.
But the Liverpool stopper also scored – yes, scored – a last-minute winner as Klopp’s side won 2-1 away to West Bromwich Albion toward the end of last season, ultimately helping them qualify for the Champions League in the process.
He is a massive player for the club and here’s how some Liverpool supporters responded to Romano’s revelation on Twitter:
Brilliant news
It seems insane but, at 28, Alisson hasn’t even reached the prime of his career yet.
Despite being one of Europe’s finest keepers, the Liverpool star can still get a hell of a lot better and that’s why this extension is so important.
If and when it’s signed, there’s a good chance that he’ll spend the best years of his career at Anfield and that can’t be anything other than brilliant, brilliant news.
