Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after PA Sport revealed that William Saliba is set to be involved in first-team proceedings next term.
The Frenchman is yet to make a competitive appearance for Arsenal since his £27 million move from AS Saint-Etienne in 2019.
In that time, Saliba has been loaned back to AS Saint-Etienne, while also playing some games for Arsenal’s Under-23 side.
The 20-year-old was then loaned to OGC Nice in January of this season.
Given the amount he cost, and his vast potential, it seems baffling that Arsenal haven’t given him more first-team action up to this point.
You can understand why the Arsenal fans below are so happy with PA Sport’s revelation.
Saliba won OGC Nice’s Player of the Month award in his first month at the club, and is evidently a very bright prospect.
Why else would a club of Arsenal’s stature spend nearly £30 million on him when he was just 18?
David Luiz’s contract expires this summer – Mikel Arteta has also managed to offload Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi.
As a result, there should be a space for Saliba in the first-team.
It is now up to him to impress Arteta back at London Colney this summer, where he will hopefully then become a regular in the starting XI.
It should be noted that Unai Emery was the man who signed Saliba, not Arteta.
Therefore, the Spaniard might not even rate the Frenchman.
Whether Arteta rates him or not, there is certainly mounting pressure to play Saliba, mainly due to how much he cost the club.
