Aston Villa supporters are delighted to hear that youngster Ben Chrisene has been promoted to first-team training ahead of their clash with Norwich tonight.

Steven Gerrard has promoted the 17-year-old after he returned from his injury, according to Birmingham Live.

The versatile teenager can operate in the middle of the park and in defence for Villa, so he has plenty of talent to showcase from his locker.

This news has delighted the Villa faithful and they are now hopeful that they will see him in action for the first-team.

A number of the Villa players that helped the club win the FA Youth Cup last season have been promoted since that day, including one of the star men Carney Chukwuemeka.

It was actually Chrisene who opened the scoring for Villa during that Youth Cup final win against Liverpool.

The disappointing part of it all is that they won’t defend their crown because they have already been knocked out of this season’s competition.

Nonetheless, for Chrisene, it’s about moving on to bigger and better things, as it will be interesting to see how Gerrard uses him.

He can operate at left-back and provide cover for Matt Targett, who returned to the starting XI at Liverpool on Saturday after being injured for the win against Leicester.

But, he now joins a long list of Villa youngsters that are trying to make noises for the senior side.

Cameron Archer was handed his full debut by Dean Smith in the League Cup and he rewarded his then-manager by scoring a hat-trick against Barrow.

Added with Archer’s goalscoring talents, Lamare Bogarde, Jaden Philogene-Bidace and Tim Iroegbunam are others also trying to make a name for themselves.

Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Chrisene’s promotion:
