Andros Townsend has claimed that Newcastle United are ‘finally’ landing their sought-after transfer target, Sven Botman, as he told talkSPORT on Monday morning.
The Everton winger pointed out that Newcastle went ‘big’ for the Lille defender during the January transfer window and signing him this summer will ‘only benefit’ them.
When Steve Bruce was in the dugout and Mike Ashley was still in charge of the club, one of the biggest areas of concern for the club was their defence.

Well, with the Saudis now running the Newcastle ship, with Eddie Howe in the manager’s seat, it isn’t a surprise that a whole new defence has been brought in since the winter.
Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Matt Targett, and most recently, Nick Pope, have all been added, as Botman is seemingly close to adding his name to that list.
Nonetheless, this is what Townsend had to say about the Magpies closing in another signing this summer.
“I think they went big for him in January, didn’t they,” said Townsend. “It didn’t work out. I can’t say I have seen too much of him, but it seems as though they have finally got their man.
“It will only benefit them if they get their man.”

WHO WILL JOIN BOTMAN AT NEWCASTLE?
This certainly won’t be the final face that walks through the St James’ Park doors, but who will join Botman at the club this summer?
Perhaps more attack-minded players are needed, a creator in the middle of the park and cover in and around the squad.
It needs to be remembered that teams can make five substitutions next season, so those teams with depth will have an advantage over others.
Whilst that new five-sub rule has been brought in, it’s something that hasn’t seemingly sat well with Townsend, who claimed that constant ‘moaning’ from Jurgen Klopp has resulted in this change.
Well, Klopp does love a moan, that has been obvious from the day he walked into Anfield, but 14 teams did vote for this to go through, not just Liverpool themselves.
