It was a bittersweet day for one Liverpool loanee this afternoon.

The Reds loaned Takumi Minamino to Southampton toward the end of the January transfer window.

And although the Japan international – a £7.2 million signing by Liverpool only 13 months ago – broke his duck in the trip to Newcastle United today, his side wound up losing 3-2.

Still, it was a brilliant first goal for the former Salzburg winger.

And here’s how Gary Lineker reacted to it on Twitter:

It’ll be interesting to see if Minamino has a long-term future at Liverpool but, if you were a betting man, you’d say probably not.

For whatever reason, the 25-year-old just hasn’t been able to settle and adapt to life under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

That being said, a good loan spell on the South Coast and maybe it’ll give him the confidence to go back to Liverpool this summer and stake a proper claim.
