This week saw Slovakian talent Filip Lesniak head out on loan to Slovan Liberec of the Czech Republic top-flight in search of more regular first-team football.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, who has impressed in the Spurs under-21s, has joined the Czech side on loan for the 2016-17 season – with first-team opportunities at Spurs looking unlikely.

The 20-year-old has now spoken about the move to the club’s official website, in which he expressed his hope that playing regular first-team football in the Czech Republic might help him into the Slovakia senior set-up:
“The offer came sometime in the last month. As soon as I learned that Slovan were interested in me, I wanted to come here. It dragged a little, but now I’m in Liberec and I’m very happy.
“I consider it a step forward. In England I played in our youth, which had for those two or three years I spent there.
“Adult football is obviously about something else, because it is in my opinion the right choice. More players from the Slovak national team operating in the Czech league, so I here could be more visible.”

Lesniak has represented his country from under-17 level up to under-21 and is considered one of the brightest talents in the Slovakia youth ranks.
If he can perform well in Liberec, who have also just signed former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Milan Baros, then he will surely be in with a shout of some international honours by the New Year.

As for his chances at Spurs he is still young and a good showing out on loan might bump him up the pecking order and into Mauricio Pochettino’s sights for next season.
