Rangers defender Filip Helander has picked out Joe Aribo as a particularly good talent he’s enjoying playing with since making the switch from Bologna last month, The Scottish Sun report.

The Swedish international finally made his competitive debut for the club on Sunday, starting the Scottish League Cup clash against East Fife.

As introductions go it was a fairly routine one, with the challenge of the League One side not the toughest challenge the defender will face this season.

The 26-year-old is feeling good about his new team though and feels they have the strength to compete on multiple fronts over the coming season.

Aribo appears to be the player impressing him most.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Helander said: “The squad is really competitive and that’s a key thing to have a successful team to play in two cups, Europe and the league.

“It’s very important we have a really good squad. I had not seen a lot of Scottish football before I came, but I think we have a good team so far.

“Joe Aribo is a very good player, very technical and he’s a big guy, so he can push about opponents and he is young as well.”

The Nigerian-declared international has had nothing short of a spectacular start since making the switch from Charlton. It’s no surprise to hear his teammates and pundits speak in such glowing terms about his ability.

So far he’s scored four goals in seven appearances. He looks like what the Gers midfield were missing last season; that player that could link defence and attack with an incisive turn and pass.

He’s also creative in patient build-up play.

If Steven Gerrard can keep him fit and confident, Aribo has the capability to have a big say when it comes to determining where the trophies end up this season.
