Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are a little bigger than the Swede had anticipated.
Filip Helander has admitted that he underestimated just how huge Rangers were as a football club.
The Sweden international is still getting to grips with life in Glasgow after joining the Gers this past summer.
Helander, who set Rangers back £4 million [The Scotsman], has only managed two Premiership games under Steven Gerrard so far, sitting out Sunday’s 5-0 demolition of Hamilton with an injury.
The 26-year-old joined from Bologna in Italy and despite claiming that he knew the light Blues were a big club, he concedes that he didn’t realise the full scale until actually being there.
Helander told Rangers TV: “Maybe how big the club really is surprised me a bit. I knew obviously that it was a big club when I came, but maybe not that big.
“Then of course Scottish football is not very similar to what I have played before in Italy, so that’s been quite a new thing.”
There’s a bit of pressure on Helander, having cost so much money, but he is a very decent centre-back and one who will no doubt justify the money that was spent on him.
But it’ll be tough because Gerrard also has Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson and George Edmundson – who made his league debut this past weekend – and time will tell how the big Swede reacts.
