Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic signed Filip Benkovic on loan from Leicester City in the summer of 2018.

Filip Benkovic of Celtic arrives prior to the UEFA Europa League Group B match between Celtic and RB Leipzig at Celtic Park on November 8, 2018 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Leicester City-owned central defender Filip Benkovic has told The Scottish Sun that he is enjoying his loan spell at Celtic.

Benkovic joined Scottish Premiership club Celtic on loan from Premier League club Leicester in the summer of 2018.

The 21-year-old Croatian centre-back has made 15 starts and one substitute appearance in the Scottish Premiership for the Hoops so far this campaign, according to WhoScored.

The youngster, though, has had injury issues at the Hoops and could be out until March due to an ankle problem, according to The Scottish Sun.

Benkovic picked up the injury during Celtic’s Old Firm derby against Rangers in January.

The youngster told The Scottish Sun: “Up until the injury, everything was super. I was so happy. I have to do all the examinations, then we will know the diagnosis and recovery time.

“I enjoy being at Celtic, the coach trusts me and I have played a lot of big games. Hopefully I won’t be out for a long time.”

Important player

Benkovic is a very good and promising young defender who has played well for Celtic this season, and it is encouraging that Croatian is enjoying his spell at Celtic Park.

Perhaps the Hoops could strike a deal with Leicester in the summer of 2019 for the defender to remain on loan at the Glasgow giants for the 2019-20 campaign as well.
