According to Chilean outlet, La Tercera, Arsenal are interested in a move that could, remarkably, see Alexis Sanchez return to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal fans know what Sanchez is all about. After all, he was the Gunners’ best player for a period in the mid 2010s, and now, a return could be on the cards.

Of course, after a few years of underperforming, there may be fears that Sanchez doesn’t have what it takes to be an Arsenal player anymore, but Gunners fans should know better than that.

Indeed, if nothing else, Sanchez is a fighter and if he were to return to Arsenal, he’d give his all to be the best he could be for the Gunners.

One man who knows all about Sanchez’s elite mentality is Arsene Wenger who has gone onto the record to praise the Chilean’s determination on a number of occasions.

What’s been said?

There are currently concerns about Sanchez’s fitness and his age, but Wenger has gone on the record in the past to praise him for fighting through injuries.

“The physios told me Alexis Sanchez wanted to come off, I don’t know what it was, but he’s a fighter and found the resources to score an excellent goal after,” Wenger once said after a win against Stoke.

“I just think he has shown again that it’s not about talent but desire too and fighting spirit and he has that as well.”

Wenger repeated that sentiment after a victory against Koln in 2017.

“Sanchez came alive in the second half,” said Wenger. “He is still fighting to come back to his best physically, but Sanchez is Sanchez. He’s an exceptional footballer.

Fighter

Sanchez is past his best, that much is obvious, but if there’s one reason why he would be a success at Arsenal, it’s because of this fighting spirit.

Sanchez will be well aware that the wider footballing world have been writing him off for the past four years, and he will be desperate to show everyone just how wrong they are about him.

If he returns to Arsenal, he will give it his all to roll back the years and be a star for the Gunners, and while he may not be successful, Wenger’s comments show that you can at least count on him to try.
