New York City and surrounding areas have been hit with severe thunderstorms ahead of the World Cup final.
On Saturday, a flood watch was put in place as the city was hit with torrential rain. The warning is in place until Sunday at 2 am (ET).

Severe weather conditions should subside before World Cup final
According to Accuweather, the extreme rainfall and flooding won’t last through the night.
They forecast mild sunny conditions with highs of 82°F, so fans can rest easy knowing this huge day won’t be ruined.
But for Saturday night, extreme caution should be taken.
In a post to X, Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged residents and visitors to follow the following guidelines:
- Exercise caution while traveling.
- Take public transit whenever possible.
- Never walk, bike, or drive through floodwaters.
- If rain and storms are severe, seek shelter indoors and wait for conditions to improve before traveling. No destination is worth risking your safety.
- Strong winds can carry loose objects and down trees and power lines. Remain vigilant and go inside if winds pick up.
- Stay out of flooded basements.
Although conditions should be cleared up, the effects of the flooding could mean heavier traffic en route to the stadium and potentially the need for detours. Make sure to allow for delays if you’re heading to the final.
