Newcastle United have had their latest offer for Nicolai Jorgensen, of around £15m, rejected by Feyenoord as they hold out for £20m – reports Sky Sports.

Magpies manager Rafa Benitez is desperate to improve his attack during the January transfer window and views Jorgensen as the ideal player to do that.

However, Newcastle will have to break their transfer record to sign the Denmark international it seems, although that would have been far from the case just 18 months ago.

Jorgensen joined Feyenoord in the summer of 2016 from FC Copenhagen for around £3m, as outlined by Dutch publication De Telegraaf, and yet is now set to fetch almost seven times that.

That is because the 27-year-old has been in fine form since joining the reigning Dutch champions, helping them to the Eredivisie title and top-scoring in the division with 21 goals in his first season in 2016/17.

In total Jorgensen has netted 34 times in 61 appearances for the Rotterdam club and Benitez will be hoping the striker can repeat those sort of statistics if the Dane does eventually make his move to the Premier League.
