Kamil Miazek wanted to be Feyenoord’s first-choice goalkeeper but failed to make the grade – but can he succeed at Leeds United?

It’s been a busy few months for Leeds United in the goalkeeping department. The club let Rob Green go, sold Marco Silvestri, signed Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan and now appear to be closing in on the signing of another new shot-stopper.

Leeds academy scout Jakub Bokiej has confirmed that The Whites have offered a contract to 21-year-old Pole Kamil Miazek after a successful trial period with the Elland Road side.

If he accepts the offer, Miazek, who admitted to idolising compatriot and former Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny, is expected to represent the club’s Under-23 side for the time being.

Though putting pen to paper on a contract with Leeds represents a major opportunity with Miazek. After all, he now has a second chance to make the grade in senior football after a previous spell in the Feyenoord academy came to nothing.

‘Highly talented’

And it’s only two years since the ‘keeper was being hailed by Feyenoord’s sporting director Martin van Geel (below, left) and announced as the current Eredivisie champions’ third-choice between the sticks.

‘We see that Kamil has a lot of possibilities. He joined our academy three years ago and has since made enormous progress as a person and as a player,” van Geel told the club’s official website in 2015.

“It’s is not nothing to suddenly go and live far from your friends and family, but Kamil has been wonderfully taken care of and he has worked very hard. He is not only highly talented, he also has a fantastic mindset.”

Miazek failed in his ambition to become Feyenoord’s first-choice goalkeeper, however, and arrives at Leeds via Polish side Chojniczanki Chojnice needing to prove himself to a new club.

Can Miazek finally nail down a place in a senior squad?
