Liverpool’s hopes of signing Valencia Ferran Torres have been dented.
Valencia have today confirmed that teenage winger Ferran Torres has signed a new deal with the club, keeping him at the Mestalla until 2021 – and his release clause has been set at €100million (£88million).
Torres, 18, was born in the Valencian Community and joined his boyhood club’s youth setup at the age of just six, making his way up through the Valencia ranks.
After impressing with Valencia B last season, Torres has been in and around the first team this season, making his first-team debut back in November as he continues his ascent.
The winger has also played 22 times for Spain’s Under-17’s, and having caught the eye with his talent and huge potential, Torres has been in the news of late.
The Daily Mail reported on Monday night that Liverpool were keen to land Torres in a £22milion swoop, with Jurgen Klopp looking to develop a winger behind Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
However, Liverpool now have virtually no chance at sealing such a deal, as Valencia have today tied Torres down to a new contract, which includes an £88million release clause.
Torres is now committed to his boyhood club until 2021, and with his value seemingly quadrupling over the last 24 hours, Liverpool may back away this summer.
