Fernando Llorente has admitted that he wants a return to Spain.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente may have made an impact from the bench in the 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven, but he appears to have one eye on an exit.
It’s fair to say that the Spaniard hasn’t really lived up to expectations since his August 2017 move from Swansea City, scoring just six goals in 36 games for Spurs.
The veteran target man did though impress coming off the bench against PSV in midweek, causing havoc around the penalty area, allowing Harry Kane to score twice and grab the win.
An exit seems obvious though; Llorente is out of contract at the end of the season, and having made little impact in North London, Spurs look set to let him walk.
Now, Llorente has told Four Four Two that he would like a move back to Spain, having left his home country in 2012 in order to leave Athletic Bilbao for Juventus, with his only return coming in a one-year stint with Sevilla from 2015 to 2016.
“I’ve been away from home for many years, I’d love to go back to LaLiga,” said Llorente, which would leave Spurs in need of another striker, as their hunt for competent backup to Kane goes on.
Llorente’s comments came on the same day that El Gol Digital reported Tottenham are keen to snap up Espanyol’s Borja Iglesias, another Spanish target man – but he would cost around £25million due to a release clause in his deal.
Iglesias, 25, has hit six goals and two assists in 11 La Liga outings this season, and his similar profile – big, strong and good in the air – may just hint that Pochettino has already found Llorente’s replacement if he does leave for free next summer.
