Fernando Llorente was released by Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer, and has now sealed the next move in his career.

Fernando Llorente has sent a message to Tottenham supporters on Twitter after the striker secured the next move of his career by joining Napoli on a free transfer.

Llorente’s spell with Spurs came to an end earlier in the summer after two years with the Champions League finalists. He had initially struggled to impress after arriving from Swansea City for a fee of £12.1 million, according to Sky Sports.

But he left earlier this year as something of a cult-hero. It was his goal that decided one of the greatest games in Champions League history when Mauricio Pochettino’s side edged out Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last season.

And, while it was Lucas Moura’s hat-trick that sent Spurs through the final, it was the Spaniard’s introduction when Tottenham had 45 minutes to overturn a 2-0 deficit away at Ajax that played a big part in allowing the Premier League side to produce one of the most incredible comebacks in the competition.

He did not get the fairytale ending that he may have hoped for as Tottenham were beaten in Madrid, but it did appear that there were a much greater number of fans keen to see Llorente rewarded with a new contract than there would have been 12 months earlier.

There had been no official statement from the club confirming that Llorente had been released, but his exit was announced as he was included on the list of names released by Premier League sides (via the league’s official website).
